Quote: Strength and Thoughts

I have a super busy next couple of weeks, as my software upgrade project at work is coming to fruition.  User training starts today. As I am the project manager, I need all of the energy and strength I can get. Failure is not an option.  Nor is taking a much needed break, so of course I am in fibro flare mode, and my shoulder and neck are acting up.

Although I tweeted this out for #MondayMotivation, I am recycling this quote for a little #WednesdayWisdom to get me through the next few weeks.

“With a new day comes new strength and new thoughts.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

Remember, every day is a new day to begin again. Hope you all have a beautiful rest of your week! Positive vibes and thoughts for all!

Cheers!

Share Your World

I rarely do these challenges, but I really liked Cee’s Photography’s “Share Your World – June 12, 2017” post. I am a little late to the game this week because I was traveling, but I thought I would play along and share a little bit about me.

What do you do when you’re not working? If you are retired, what do you that is not part of your regular daytime routine?
Well I work a lot! However, my free time is spent volunteering – I am on the board of a local food pantry Good Samaritans of Garland (we are currently trying to raise funds for much needed building repairs) – and I volunteer for my leadership alumni group. I also enjoy working out, photography, blogging, reading, cooking, gardening, and traveling.

What would you do if you won the lottery?
First, I would splurge on a new computer and camera! But first and foremost, I would get our finances in order so that my daughter’s college was paid for and then my husband and I could retire. I will have 20 years at my job in September, so I am eligible to retire then, but my current goal is to retire at 25 years. We would look for a house with some land so that we can both enjoy the things we love to do – gardening, photography, cooking for me; working on cars, forging steel for knives, gardening for the hubby. And he wants chickens so we can have farm fresh eggs all the time. 🙂 And retirement would give me much more free time for volunteering, so I can give back.

What makes you laugh the most?
My husband, my kids, and my dogs always make me laugh. Like Cee, I too love Friends reruns and the nerd in me loves The Big Bang Theory, but my current summer guilty pleasure is binge-watching Bones on Netflix. Emily Deschanel as Temperance Brennan is pure gold.

What is your biggest pet peeve with modern technology?
As an IT professional, you would think I have the latest and greatest. But my peeve is that technology changes so rapidly, and I like things to last! I use my 8 year old iMac for my blogging, and it has been painfully obvious for a year or so that I need to upgrade! 😦 Where’s that lottery payout?

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
I am grateful for the fact that I have a job that affords me the opportunity to travel to conferences for professional development and was able to visit Philadelphia for the first time. I saw some wonderful places I have never seen before, although I had to cut the trip shorter than originally planned. This coming week I am looking forward to some test results. (More on that in another blog installment.)

Cheers!

Seize the Moment

Do you wait for opportunities to come your way, or do you make the most of every situation? I prefer to make the most out of everything, which is why my blog is subtitled “Finding Inspiration in Every Day Life”.

Choose Happiness

Today, March 20th, is the International Day of Happiness and it’s not too late to join the movement. Visit the link, sign the pledge, and help spread happiness. I believe happiness is a choice. I choose to live my life deliberately and intentionally. I choose happiness and joy. You can too!

“I will try to create more happiness in the world around me.”

There are ten key aspects to living a happy and fulfilled life, according to research. All ten of these things are within our control:

It’s a powerful thing to recognize that your happiness is controlled by you, and your actions and choices. Continue reading “Choose Happiness”

One Thing at a Time

I spotted this quote on Keepinspiring.me and it resonated with me. Nowadays it seems people want quick fixes and instant gratification. Sometimes letting things grow and develop slowly yields better results. Roots grow deep and build a stronger foundation.

“There is no royal road to anything. One thing at a time, all things in succession. That which grows fast, withers as rapidly. That which grows slowly, endures.”– Josiah Gilbert Holland

I keep these little placards from LaraCasey.com on my desk at home and work as gentle reminders, and I change the saying for how I am feeling or being challenged with that day. I can only do “one thing at a time,” especially if I want to do it well.

So the next time you are starting a new project or going after something you want that may take some effort, remember “that which grows slowly endures.”  Planning it out to do things one at a time, in succession, will yield you better chances of achieving that goal.

Cheers!

Daily Prompt: Hopeful

via Daily Prompt: Hopeful

Most years have their ups and downs, but 2016 seemed particularly trying for me. I am eternally hopeful that 2017 starts out peaceful and remains healthy, happy, and prosperous for me and my family, friends, and all of you. Prosperity, success, and wealth have different meanings for everyone, so find what has significance for you.

Here’s a little quote that embodies today’s prompt for me:

“Know your own HAPPINESS. Want for nothing but PATIENCE – or give it a more fascinating name. Call it ‘HOPE‘.”

~ Jane Austen from Sense and Sensibility

Have a safe and Happy New Year! Tomorrow begins a new day, a new adventure, a new you!

Cheers!

World Hello Day

The day is not quite over yet, so in the spirit of World Hello Day I wanted to write a quick post. This is the 44th annual observance of this day that is simply designed for you to greet ten people for peace. Having done that already in person today, I wanted to try to reach at least 10 people out in the blogosphere. I thought I would post 10 interesting things about me, in hopes of getting (at least) 10 likes. So here goes:

  1. I have been to 12 countries, 20 islands, seen 7 volcanoes, and visited *most* of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.
  2. I have caught a shark while deep sea fishing.
  3. I was helped on stage by Peter Gabriel at one of his concerts.
  4. I sometimes eat dessert first.
  5. I like fresh peaches, but not peach flavored anything. On the contrary, I don’t like real cherries, but will eat cherry flavored Starbursts. (As a kid, I used to eat my grandmother’s Luden cherry cough drops like candy!)
  6. I only have 11 sets of ribs.
  7. I swam with sea turtles while snorkeling in Hawaii.
  8. I have been bungee jumping.
  9. I have been in a hot air balloon.
  10. I took a picture of an eclipse through a welder’s hood a few years ago that was tweeted by USA Today – and I came across it pinned the other day on someone’s board on Pinterest. (OK, that’s probably more silly than interesting!)world-hello-day1

That’s 10 quick things about me. Leave me a comment and tell me something interesting about you! And let’s keep the communication going.

Read some past letters in observance of this day.

Peace and Cheers,

Cynthia
