Letter Board No. 39

Get outside and feel the sunshine on your face!

Summer is here and after a year+ of COVID lockdowns, restrictions, grocery shortages, and masks, the world is ready to get out. Out to eat. Out to the movies. Out in the sun. Out to travel or see friends. Or just to get on with their lives. I, myself, have been ready for some time now to travel or just get back to normalcy, but these words are often easier said than done for a variety of reasons.

Melatonin, Valerian, and Fibromyalgia

Sleep is an essential function to recharge our bodies and minds.

In the early days after my fibromyalgia diagnosis (back in 2000), I remember reading somewhere that Melatonin wasn’t good for auto-immune disorders. Although FMS isn’t an auto-immune disorder, it wasn’t well understood (still isn’t) back in those days, so I never tried it. After researching natural alternatives, I settled on Valerian. It worked for me for many years, but these days it sometimes gives me a foggy feeling in the morning if I take a supplement.

Fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread pain and fatigue. People with fibromyalgia often have insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, or their sleep is often disrupted by pain. People with fibromyalgia may also experience an alteration in their patterns of slow wave sleep, which is the deepest stage of sleep.

Sleep is an essential function1 that allows your body and mind to recharge, leaving you refreshed and alert when you wake up. Healthy sleep also helps the body remain healthy and stave off diseases. Without enough sleep, the brain cannot function properly.

After yet another sleepless night recently, I decided to do look into Melatonin.

Nutrition and Fibromyalgia

We’re all just given one body to get us through life, so take care of it.

Did you know that:

  • An unhealthy diet contributes to almost 680,000 deaths in the U. S. each year?
  • Fewer than 1 in 10 people eat the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables?
  • An estimated $147 billion is spent annually on health care for obesity?

Staggering statistics to say the least.

If you’ve read my blog in the past, you know I have had fibromyalgia for over 20 years now and I prefer a holistic approach over taking prescription medications to cope with my condition.

March is National Nutrition Month here in the U.S., designed to help people make informed choices on what to eat, and build better habits for eating right and moving more. We’re all given just one body to get us through this life, so it’s best we take care of it the best we can. As such, I thought I would just link up some of my favorite and most popular posts on nutrition, supplements, exercise, and building habits, that enable me to live a life without pain medication.

“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.”
