Letter Board No. 3

Living with any chronic illness or chronic pain, self-care is vitally important. If we don’t take care of ourselves, we cannot properly take care of anything else. Our energy and resources (“spoons“) are low. So to add a little humor to my weekly inspiration, I thought I would share this quote this week.

Note: No cupcakes were harmed in the process. And no, my office is not the ideal place for taking pictures. I am still working that out.

I often say that you cannot drink from an empty cup. And so it is that you cannot make everyone happy. Happiness starts within yourself. And that happiness then becomes contagious.

Cheers!

Cynthia

Health issues that disproportionately affect women are not studied as much as those affecting men. It can take women multiple visits and sometimes years to diagnose their medical issues and chronic illnesses. And when painful conditions like Endometriosis and Fibromyalgia don’t have a simple test for diagnosing, those visits and months and years can prove both emotionally and physically draining when you’re already in pain and still having to fight for a diagnosis.

“To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art.”

La Rouchefoucauld

The concept of eating “clean” just encourages you to consume more whole foods — such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains and healthy fats — and limit highly processed snack foods, sweets and other packaged foods. Yes, it’s a difficult concept to wrap your brain around during the holidays when we often indulge on extra calories in the form of holiday meals and baked goodies.

Oftentimes we equate healthy foods with tasteless foods. But done right smoothies are the perfect combination of both nutritious and flavorful foods. I have posted some recipes and pics on the blog and my Instagram of smoothies and smoothie bowls, so I thought I would grab my favorites in one post. Smoothies take about 5 minutes to put together in a blender, and then you have the perfect meal on the go!
