Curse the Pigeon Pose

This post is brought to you by the today’s Daily Post prompt. Transmogrify means “to change in appearance or form, especially strangely or grotesquely; transform.” So consider the rather awkward and “hurts-so-good” yoga pose called the Pigeon Pose as a “transmogrifier” for your lower back and hip pain. No, really. Trust me.

King Pigeon Pose

I hurt every dang day of my life. The location and extent of the pain changes, but I cannot remember a day without pain as of late. Bouncing out of bed is no longer an option. I am slow to move as I am stiff and it hurts to straighten up and walk in the mornings. Some days the pain is all over, some days it’s more pronounced in the neck and shoulders, others it’s the lower back and/or one leg or another. This is not meant to be a pity party, but more of an explanation, and what I do to relieve my pain. Continue reading “Curse the Pigeon Pose”

Cybersecurity for Bloggers

cyberheader

This blog is a little out of the ordinary for my personal blog, but today my personal life and professional life are intersecting. By day, I am a technology manager, charged with supporting software applications, building technology solutions for complex business problems, and making sure those solutions are secure and our end-users are properly trained. By night, I usually blog about those random things in life that inspire me. Lately, that has been security.

As this is National Cyber Security Awareness Monthcyber_blog1  (NCSAM), I have been running a campaign at work to raise end-user awareness about simple security tips to use at work and home, as well as posting information on social media under my personal accounts. As a member of the “Stop. Think. Connect.” global online safety awareness campaign, I use many of their materials for this initiative. And when I came across “Safety Tips for Bloggers” I figured I would share this week, as the theme is “Our Continuously Connected Lives,” hoping I could share some useful information with my readers. Meet and Greet Weekend

Well it’s not the weekend (I was taking a break from Social Media on Sunday), but it’s always a good time to meet new friends and find new blog inspirations. So thank you, Keith, for this opportunity. And “Cheers!” Everyone.

A Good Laugh and a Long Sleep

There’s an Irish proverb that goes, “A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor’s book.”

It’s no secret that we live in a world of always-on, information overload. I started this post earlier this week while I was out of town for work, as I was caught up in a self-imposed state of sleep deprivation. Easy to do because: 1) I don’t sleep well when not in my own bed and 2) I am not receiving the evil eye from my husband for spending too much time on my phone or tablet. But yet thanks to our ‘smart’ devices, our attention span is now worse than a goldfish. Smart devices making us dumb and taking us away from precious sleep, both directly and indirectly. So what can we do?

Do Something Different

Thomas Jefferson said, “If you want something you have never had, you must be willing to do something you have never done.” Do something different. Step outside your comfort zone. I have done exactly that several times in the past several years: I started this blog. Changed roles at work. Twice! Changed departments once. I was able to do this because: I believe in myself and my capabilities; I am not content to stay put; and I push myself to learn new things, have new experiences, and GROW. My Blogging Journey

We should not be content to stay stagnant; but rather we should continue to push ourselves to learn and grow, like a plant or a flower always reaching for the sun. Push, stretch, grow!

I started this blog almost a year ago, knowing nothing about WordPress. I wanted to write about things that inspire me and how I cope with fibromyalgia, so I just started and didn’t really take the time to learn the tool fully. I have muddled my way along, making my share of mistakes:

  • I still can’t get my pictures sized the way I want half the time.
  • I post and then find errors and edit and repost.
  • I just tried the “Reblog” button this morning for the first time and screwed that up and had to do it again.

Haha. It’s been frustrating to say the least. But I laugh at myself and keep learning, because I learn from my failures and mistakes. Life really is a journey of self-discovery. We should not be content to stay stagnant; but rather we should continue to push ourselves to learn and grow, like a plant or a flower always reaching for the sun. Push, stretch, grow!

TGIF, Good Morning

The original post was from 10/14/16. Updated 8/9/19.

I keep a Gratitude Journal where I try to list three things each day I am thankful for, so I can start my day on a positive note. I love the simplicity of this positive act that everyone can easily do. Write it, speak it, or just think it to yourself. We should all maintain an Attitude of Gratitude for what we have in this life.

Perhaps if everyone was a little kinder and more grateful, this world would be a different place.

I hope everyone has an awesome Friday! Remember:

“Change your thoughts and change the world.” ~ Norman Vincent Peale

Cheers!

Cynthia
