Lavender Lullabies

Lavender is an herb that is both beautiful and beneficial.

As November is Sleep Comfort Month, I thought I would write one more post about sleep. I have written about my fibromyalgia and difficulties sleeping (here and here). I have various sleep strategies I use, including using lavender oil or spray. So recently at lunch with a few girlfriends, one of them mentioned she hadn’t slept through the night since March due to various things going on in her life (stress!). Someone said, “Have you tried Ambien?” It’s really a shame that some people think first about a prescription medication to mask the problem, rather than trying easy at-home strategies first. I mentioned Lavender, Melatonin and Valerian root to her as a natural alternatives to try, but my favorite is still lavender.

Not Afraid to Fail

For some people the phrase “failure is not an option” are words to live by. I tend to look at things a little differently. I had a boss a long time ago who used to tell me, “No guts, no glory” when I was a little hesitant to push a button on an upgrade. Those words helped me gain confidence and get over my fear of failing, because even if I failed, I learned something from the experience.

“A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.” ~ George Bernard Shaw

No guts-no glorySo don’t be afraid to make a mistake. Be afraid of never trying!

Daily Prompt: Lofty

Via Daily Prompt and  Becca’s Sunday Trees Challenge

Like these lofty trees, we sometimes set high goals for ourselves. Awesome goals that inspire us to push ourselves, and maybe try something new. Stretch goals that allow us to demonstrate to others what we are truly capable of achieving. Personally, if I don’t keep moving forward and inching the bar a little higher I really won’t know what I can achieve, will I? Setting lofty goals is good for one’s psyche and personal growth.

“Dreams are Goals with Deadlines.” So continue to Dream a little Bigger. Aim a little Higher. And pursue those lofty goals that may seem out of reach.

“Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal.”

It’s World Kindness Day

Today is my one year Blogiversary! It’s also World Kindness Day. So in the spirit of Kindness Day, I wanted to share a story I read from On the Road with Steve Hartman about Chris Rosati who was suffering from ALS. Have you heard of the butterfly effect? It’s this idea that “a single butterfly flapping its wings on one side of the globe can, in theory, start a hurricane on the other.” So Chris applied this theory to kindness and children, thinking it only takes a single act of kindness to start a chain reaction. So if you want a little more inspiration to start your own chain reaction or spread a little kindness in the world, go read the story of Chris Rosati and his butterfly effect. It will make your day.

Go, spread kindness. Smile. Be kind.

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Gandhi

Cheers!
