What gets you going each day? Sure, the smell of coffee and that first sip of hot, black, magical elixir is great. But do you wake up each day excited and ready to hit the ground running, or is your morning filled with dread and trepidation, or perhaps pain and fear?

There are all kinds of physical reasons to wake up slow and uneasy – illness, pain, or a debilitating condition. But I am talking about mentally – what is your attitude towards your day? Making a few mental shifts can make a difference in your life.
Three Mental Shifts for a Great Day
- Attitude of Gratitude If you start your day by expressing gratitude, you can set a tone for the rest of the day. You can verbalize what you’re grateful for or write it down in a gratitude journal. “Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” ~ Melody Beattie
Be HappyKeep Smiling Did you know that the simple act of smiling will: improve your mood, lower your blood pressure, relieve stress, relieve pain, help you life longer, and strengthen your immune system? Besides, if you’re smiling, others might wonder what exactly you’re so happy about. “A smile is the universal welcome!”- Develop a Routine Having a routine for your mornings can ensure you are priming your day for success. Whatever it is, having a repeatable routine can help you stay focused and on track to make the most of your day. “The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” ~ John Maxwell Bonus: It can also help you maintain your health if you incorporate things like healthy meals, working out, and a bedtime routine into your day. Here are some ideas from how I start most days:
- Drink water
- Express gratitude
- Work out
- Drink coffee
- Eat a healthy breakfast
- Set priorities
- Read email / blogs / news
Maybe you’re reading this as part of your daily routine. Maybe I had you at the word “coffee.” ❤ No matter what the reason, I hope I have given you some ideas and inspirations for starting your day out on the right foot.
“MY successful life is one that is calm and happy and moves at a manageable pace. Within that pace, I am able to enjoy the moments that make up each day.” ~ Charlynn Avery
Do you have a morning routine to start your day? What do you find helps you be successful and productive during your day?
Cheers!

Pain. Pain affects the mind. It really does. Just smiling and being grateful does not move the cloud away. It does not. I try all the time. It does not. Contentment and acceptance are better words for me than the flippant word of happiness. Thank you for letting me share my thoughts. 🌞

I appreciate everyone’s comments and thoughts, and yes you are right. Pain is real and everyone experiences is differently. It’s easy to say “Be happy” but maybe I should have said “Keep smiling.” Even that is tough sometimes when the pain is so bad. I am currently icing my back pain and feeling overwhelmed, but I *try* to maintain a positive attitude as beat as I can. I hope you have a wonderful week. Thanks for sharing. 💗

Yes! I too try to stay upbeat. And most of the time I try to maintain a positive attitude but for some reason the “be happy” irritates me. It’s overrated-I’m beginning to dislike the word happy. 😂😂😂 you are right! Smiling does lift the load a bit…. just happy?? Maybe I should write about it… or maybe I have. ❤️🌟😉

I was just discussing this with my husband! We are both working from home now. It gets really easy to fall into a slump, stay in the PJs and work your own hours. I am feeling anxious and depressed. Partly because the Midwest is having a heck of a winter affecting my fibro. Part because I haven’t followed a routing since he started working from home, January 1, 2019. So today, I started a routine! But it was a bit of a shaky start… I’m still feeling anxious and depressed… BUT I started. Tomorrow it will go better, and the day after that… and by the end of the week, should be good to go! Eating properly is the hardest hurdle right now. But acting happy, even when you aren’t feeling very happy is key.

I hope your week gets easier as it goes along. And yes the cold winter weather can be very depressing. I am flying back to wet and snowy Portland in Friday – just in time for it to finally warm up a little here in Texas!
Cheers for a new routine and a productive and happy week!
