One of the common complaints that goes along with fibromyalgia is gastrointestinal problems. Bloating, gas pain, diarrhea, and cramps are just a few of the symptoms. IBS and food intolerances are some of the causes. But even if you don’t have fibromyalgia, a little holiday over-indulgence can leave you feeling this way. And when those symptoms start in, you are looking for fast relief!
My Approach
While preventative care is the best approach, sometimes you can’t always control the body’s response to foods. Here are 5 natural ways I relieve my stomach issues:
- Use a heating pad.
- Nibble on ginger or a peppermint.
- Sip ginger or minty tea (I like this one from Traditional Medicinals: probiotic mint tea).
- Inhale peppermint essential oil or mix it with lotion to rub on your belly. You can mix in a little Lavender or Chamomile essential oils for their calming principles.
- Practice some yoga poses.
Why Yoga?
Yoga is an ancient health practice that can be used for pain and symptom relief for so many things, including stomach pain. Try these poses:
- Child’s pose
- Knee hug
- Spinal twist (lying)
- Spinal twist (seated)
- Bridge
Visit this website for examples of the poses. Or try this 25 minute video by Yoga with Adrienne for Digestion Flow. It’s great for after those holiday indulgences!
While I hope everyone enjoys all of the yummy foods at the holidays, if you overindulge a bit, try some of these tips for some relief.
