This past year has been difficult for me. I wasn’t in the holiday spirit last year. This year is a little better, but it will be our first without my Dad. When my parents’ owned a day care (I was in college), my dad dressed up as Santa for all the kids. And then when my kids and nephews were little, he did the same. My dad was always a focal point of entertainment, and his presence is sorely missed when my family gets together.
I just returned from a trip to Salt Lake City for work, and Portland to see my mom and one of my brothers and sisters-in-law. We had a nice family dinner while I was there. It reminded me of all of holidays of the past, but as the years go on the numbers attending just dwindles. We are all spread across the country in four different states – just in my immediate family. If you start counting cousins and in-laws that’s another six states. So family gatherings just aren’t the same.
While in Salt Lake City I walked around Temple Square, which is always decorated for Christmas. It’s hard NOT to be in a holiday mood after seeing so many lights and all of the beautiful displays and hearing the carolers.
Blogging hasn’t been a priority for me lately, but I did want to share some holiday cheer. Here are some Elf inspired boards I have been using around the house the last few weeks. Enjoy!

This last one is hard to read, but the Santa nutcracker has a “Days til Christmas” countdown. 10 days left. I really need to get shopping…. Sigh!
What are your favorite Christmas memories or traditions?
Cheers!
Cynthia
The boards are fantastic, and the photos you’ve shared are so pretty – I’m glad you got to take all of that in, but I can appreciate how difficult things must be and as you say, family meet ups just aren’t the same. I really do hope you can take some small joys from Christmas & some warmth from your happier memories. Sending lots of love ♥🌷 xxxx
