Letter Board No. 16

It takes determination and perseverance to reach your goals.

What does your “To Do” list look like? Is it miles long with nothing checked off? Or do you have the focus and dedication to get things done?Do you set goals for yourself, either at work or at home?

It definitely takes determination and perseverance to reach your goals. And you sometimes have to be brave, not perfect in taking risks. I have a little placard that sits on my desk at work and home that says “Done is better than perfect.” Because let’s be honest, we can sometimes get caught up in the minutiae and never actually finish something. Am I right?

“In the realm of ideas, everything depends on enthusiasm…in the real world, all rests on perseverance.”

Johann W. von Goethe

I know how easy it is to give up. Sometimes I start things only to find I really don’t love them. Sometimes I give up things because I don’t have the energy or drive to continue. Along the way I know I tried, maybe I failed, and I always learned. And then I set new goals. So reframing those things in your mind can help shift your mindset for the next great goal you have.

If you’re looking for some tips on self-improvement, goal-setting, goal achieving, or just some great stories on perseverance and overcoming life’s challenges, read some of these old posts:

If you experience a speed bump or a set-back on the way to achieving your goal – don’t give up. Sometimes you just have to give yourself a little mental push and Just Do It. A step forward is still progress.

“It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop.”

What are your goals for the day/week/month?

P.S. May is Fibromyalgia Awareness Month. Living with this condition definitely takes a lot of strength, perseverance, and bravery at times. 💜

  1. I always seem to have an endless to do list and sometimes I get quite a lot done, but I always seem to fall behind despite my best intentions. I should probably start to put the more meaningful things on the list, like rest and self-care aspects, because I think a lot of us probably neglect to consider those important to-dos. I like that you mentioned ‘reframing’, I think that’s important in looking at goals and achievements. Great post! 🙂

    1. I love the idea of putting rest and self care on the list. And have been making self care a priority given my back and hip issues as of late. Thanks so much for the kind words. I hope you make time for those things most important!

  2. Done is better! The minuscule just doesn’t matter. We have to learn it doesn’t matter. It’s taken getting a chronic illness and many heartbreaking moments since to finally get to the point of realizing not every little thing deserves my energy. Great reminders Cynthia!
